PIPELETTE PARKLET
Location: San Francisco, California
Designed and built through the non profit Youth Art Exchange, public high school students worked with Lead Architecture Faculty Kali Gordon and construction instructor Chris Wood to create the John O’Connell Pipelet Parklet, the first of its kind in San Francisco. The design, which was inspired by the school’s mascot the “boilermaker”, uses affordable materials like reclaimed cedar and electrical conduit pipes to create a parklet that adds a modern touch to the street and is accessible for the public. Students designed and built the parklet in collaboration with the John O’Connell High School and San Francisco Pavement to Parks. Funded by Umpqua bank and the California Arts Council the parklet is located at Folsom Street and 20th Street adjacent to the current bus bulb out. The parklet encourages public gathering and commerce while beautifying the neighborhood.
